Purdue Files Opposition Against STAT Publication’s Request for Court Records on OxyContin Case

STAT, a national publication focused on news about health, medicine and scientific discovery, reports that Purdue Pharma, the maker of the prescription painkiller OxyContin, filed opposition this week against the news source’s request to unseal documents related to how the company marketed its powerful opioid medication.

The desired documents stem from a lawsuit filed by the state of Kentucky against Purdue regarding the pharmaceutical company’s role in an increase of customers who become addicted to opioids following their consumption of OxyContin.

STAT claims that there is great public interest in this case, given the drug epidemic plaguing the nation, and is urging the court to release the documents immediately.
