Portsmouth Police Plan “Chasing the Dragon” Screening — All Welcome!

The Portsmouth Police Department along with the Portsmouth School Department would like to invite the community to an important event, Opiates: Our Kids, Our Community on Thursday May 26 at 6 p.m.  This event will take place at the Portsmouth High School, 50 Andrew Jarvis Drive. This night is part of Portsmouth Police Department’s Community Access to Recovery program.

The evening will include a screening of the movie “Chasing the Dragon” a documentary produced by the FBI about the surge in prescription, heroin and fentanyl overdoses.  This will be followed by an informational panel with representatives from schools, hospital, local and federal law enforcement and treatment and recovery professionals.

Doors open at 6 p.m. at which time there will be light refreshments and local treatment and recovery resources on hand.  The film will start at approximately 6:30 followed by the Panel and questions.

Portsmouth Police Chief David Mara is happy to announce this event as a part of the Portsmouth Police Community Access to Recovery Program.  Community Access to Recovery has brought local resources together at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital for Community Access to Recovery Days, has produced Public Service Announcements to reduce stigma surrounding addiction and encourage treatment and recovery.  In addition, this program continues to promote the 24/7 use of the Portsmouth Police Drug Take Back program located at the Portsmouth Police Department.

This night is made possible with the Portsmouth School Department, and ongoing partnership with the Portsmouth Regional Hospital and Safe Harbor Recovery Center.  The Portsmouth Police Department would also like to acknowledge Seacoast Mental Health, the Portsmouth Fire and Health Department, Addiction Recovery Services, ROAD to a Better Life, Families First, Seacoast Public Health Network, and Bonfire Recovery Services for their work in our community and participation in this event.
