Joe Silcox joined the P.A.A.R.I. team in December 2018 as the Program Coordinator. Joe attended Saint Anselm College and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. He is currently a MA student in the Applied Sociology program at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Joe has worked as a Teaching Assistant for a Drugs & Society course and through this experience he developed an interest in understanding the theoretical, empirical, and policy implications that impact individuals suffering from substance use disorders. Joe is currently the primary instructor for a number of courses at UMass Boston that include Introduction to Sociology and Introduction to Systems of Criminal Justice. For his Masters research, Joe will be studying how identity transformation impacts individuals that are in long-term phases of recovery.
Joe has been personally touched by addiction in a number of different ways and he has experienced a number of close friends and family members suffering from substance use disorders.
In his role as Program Coordinator, Joe will provide administrative support for the P.A.A.R.I. AmeriCorps program and oversee program evaluation.
