Angel’s Recovery Joins The Gloucester Initiative

GLOUCESTER — Police Chief Leonard Campanello and Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken are pleased to report Angel’s Recovery in Florida is partnering with the Gloucester Police Department’s ANGEL Initiative.

As of Wednesday morning, 76 people have been placed into treatment programs by the Gloucester Initiative since June 1, when the program began.

The ANGEL program allows people who suffer from addiction to turn over their remaining drug supply and paraphernalia to the Gloucester Police Department without the threat of arrest. Those in need of help are put into treatment programs as opposed to jail cells. The policy went into effect last month in an effort to address a growing opioid epidemic and to reduce the number of overdoses in Massachusetts. Click here to view the official police policy document.

“We are delighted to add Angel’s Recovery as one of our vital team members,” Chief Campanello said. “We appreciate their commitment and dedication to helping people recover from the disease of addiction.”

“Our program continues to grow every day,” Mayor Romeo Theken said. “With the assistance from Angel’s Recovery we will be able to continue to provide quality treatment options for our participants.”

Chief Campanello and businessman John Rosenthal have launched The Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative (P.A.A.R.I.) — a new nonprofit organization created in response to Gloucester’s revolutionary drug addiction program and the immediate positive feedback from local, state and national organizations.

“We are honored to partner with The Gloucester Initiative and support this noble cause,” said Angel’s Recovery CEO Tara Jasperson. “At Angel’s Recovery we are committed to furthering the well being of all our patients by providing them with holistic and traditional treatment options in a relaxed atmosphere.”

About Angel’s Recovery:

Angel’s Recovery, based in Wellington, Fla., is dedicated to providing exceptional individualized care for its patients suffering from chemical dependence and co-occurring disorders. Their treatment approach blends holistic, traditional medical and psychological therapies — such as cognitive behavioral, rational emotive behavioral, solution focused and experiential and integrative.

Angel’s Recovery’s treatment process begins with detox, followed by a partial hospitalization or outpatient (can facilitate inpatient if needed) program. Patients are placed in medically supervised safe housing while outpatient work is completed, and job placement opportunities are available during treatment.
