Caron Treatment Centers to Partner with The Gloucester Initiative

Gloucester Police Place 92 People in Treatment Since June 1

GLOUCESTER — Police Chief Leonard Campanello and Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken are happy to announce the addition of Caron Treatment Centers to the Gloucester Police Department ANGEL Initiative’s growing roster of partners

With more than 60 years of experience, Caron Treatment Centers offers behavioral health and addiction treatment services nationwide to teenagers, young adults, adults, and seniors. Caron has an office in Boston and is headquartered in Wernersville, Penn.

Caron_with tagline“Caron’s depth of treatment options and locations throughout the nation provide the Gloucester ANGEL Initiative with a unique resource as we continue our work helping those affected by the disease of addiction,” Chief Campanello said. “We look forward to working closely with Caron Treatment Centers, and we are grateful for our partnership with them.”

The Gloucester ANGEL program allows people who suffer from addiction to turn over their remaining drug supply and paraphernalia to the Gloucester Police Department without the threat of arrest. Those in need of help are put into treatment programs as opposed to jail cells. The policy went into effect last month in an effort to address a growing opioid epidemic and to reduce the number of overdoses in Massachusetts. Click here to view the official police policy document.

“Caron has been working in the New England area for more than 5 years and has seen firsthand the toll the prescription drug epidemic has taken in this community,” shared Doug Tieman, CEO and President of Caron Treatment Centers. “We were grateful when Chief Campanello and Kelly McAdams, LICSW, Resource Specialist from Caron’s Boston office began discussing our involvement in the Gloucester ANGEL Initiative, because we believe it is essential to provide resources and treatment to those suffering from the disease of addiction. As a leading not-for-profit behavioral health and addiction treatment center, Caron wants to do its part to support good community efforts such as this initiative.”.”

Caron will provide multiple scholarships to ANGEL Initiative participants. Their services include treatment for:

  • Adolescents 13-19
  • Young Adults 20-25
  • Adults
  • Seniors 65+
  • Chronic Pain
  • Relapse
  • Health Care Professionals

Caron also offers Detox, Inpatient, Extended Care, and Ongoing Recovery Care Support.

“We are delighted to begin a partnership with Caron Treatment Centers, and I look forward to learning more about their portfolio of services as we look to expand our care for those in need,” Mayor Romeo Theken said. “Caron’s commitment, and the commitment of all of our treatment partners will go far toward furthering the mission of the ANGEL Initiative.”

Chief Campanello and businessman John Rosenthal also recently launched The Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative (P.A.A.R.I.) — a new nonprofit organization created in response to Gloucester’s revolutionary drug addiction program and the immediate positive feedback from local, state and national organizations.
