Bella Monte Recovery Center Joins The Gloucester Initiative

GLOUCESTER and DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. — Police Chief Leonard Campanello and Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken are pleased to report that Bella Monte Recovery Center in Southern California’s Desert Hot Springs is partnering with the Gloucester Police Department’s ANGEL Initiative.

As of Wednesday morning, 120 people have been placed into treatment programs by the Gloucester Initiative since June 1, when the program began.

bella monteThe Gloucester ANGEL program allows people who suffer from addiction to turn over their remaining drug supply and paraphernalia to the Gloucester Police Department without the threat of arrest. Those in need of help are put into treatment programs as opposed to jail cells. The policy went into effect last month in an effort to address a growing opioid epidemic and to reduce the number of overdoses in Massachusetts. Click here to view the official police policy document.

As part of Bella Monte’s partnership with The Gloucester Initiative, the treatment center will offer scholarships to program participants.

“I cannot express my gratitude enough to Bella Monte for their overwhelmingly gracious scholarship program,” Chief Campanello said. “This will allow participants to receive the help they need to battle their addiction regardless of their financial means or insurance.”

“This scholarship program from Bella Monte is a true blessing for The Gloucester Initiative,” Mayor Romeo Theken said. “We are so honored to be partnering with this treatment center to continue our efforts helping those struggling with the disease of addiction.”

Chief Campanello and businessman John Rosenthal have launched The Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative (P.A.A.R.I.) — a new nonprofit organization created in response to Gloucester’s revolutionary drug addiction program and the immediate positive feedback from local, state and national organizations.

“Our mission at Bella Monte is to design an effective and individualized path to recovery for our clients that starts at intake and continues for life,” Randy Humprey, Bella Monte CEO and Co-Founder said. “We specialize in cultivating and fostering the immersive environment necessary for a truly focused, healthy and lasting recovery. We are excited to partner with Gloucester ANGEL Initiative and the P.A.A.R.I. program.”
