On Wednesday, May 4, John Rosenthal, co-founder of the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative (P.A.A.R.I.) was a guest speaker at the Washington Post’s series on the country’s opioid crisis.

The event was part of Coffee@WaPo and included Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, White House drug czar Michael Botticelli, health care experts and those on the front lines of addiction — who gathered to speak on the causes and consequences of the opioid epidemic, along with proposing solutions for prevention and treatment.

Rosenthal discussed how law enforcement can help combat drug addiction by treating it as a disease.

Over 200 people attended the event and hundreds more tuned into the live stream, as #coffeeatwapo trended on Twitter, with numerous influential voices sharing their thoughts during the discussion.
