Jeffersontown, Ky. Police Partner with Local Treatment Resources for ANGEL Program

JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. – Mayor Bill Dieruf and Police Chief Ken Hatmaker are pleased to announce that the Jeffersontown Police Department has partnered with four local treatment facilities as part of the Jeffersontown ANGEL Program to offer recovery services to program participants.

The Jeffersontown Police Department joined the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative (P.A.A.R.I.) in April to create an addiction outreach and recovery program, which officially launched on Aug. 1.

Four local facilities have partnered with the Jeffersontown Police Department to offer recovery services to program participants and have all already taken in participants on scholarships. Since the ANGEL Program started, Jeffersontown Police have placed seven people into treatment.

“We are so pleased with the success of our program so far and thankful to these local treatment centers who have agreed to offer their services to those seeking recovery,” Chief Hatmaker said. “There is certainly still more work to be done, but we are hopeful that our efforts will make a positive change in the lives of those who are suffering and in our community.”

The Morton Center will provide 10 intensive outpatient program scholarships that will allow participants to be at the Morton Center three to four times a week for three hours each visit. This program also includes family or friends of the participant at no additional cost. The Morton Center offers a clinical-based program with licensed staff and has an Alcohol and Other Drug Entity license from the state of Kentucky.

Volunteers of America Mid-States (VOA) are offering scholarships to their men’s and women’s facilities and a social worker to assist with intakes nine hours a week. The VOA Mid-States provides residential services for men and women, in addition to aftercare services and psychiatric evaluation.

Our Lady of Peace (OLOP) will be accepting Jeffersontown ANGEL Program participants regardless of insurance coverage. In addition to detox, OLOP also provides intensive outpatient and dual diagnosis services.

Seven Counties delivers community-based treatment, support and services for persons with severe mental illnesses, children with severe emotional and behavioral disorders, individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities, and adults and adolescents with addiction and substance abuse disorders. Seven Counties will be offering scholarships to Jeffersontown ANGEL Program participants.

Modeled after the Gloucester ANGEL Initiative, the Jeffersontown ANGEL Program encourages residents who want to overcome their addiction to simply walk into the police station, turn over their drugs and paraphernalia and ask for help. Those who do will not be charged. Instead, they will immediately be placed into a drug treatment program, regardless of financial means or insurance coverage.
