Statement of John Rosenthal, Chairman of the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative

GLOUCESTER — John Rosenthal, co-founder and chairman of the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative, issues the following statement:

“We have been made aware of the fact that Gloucester Police Chief Leonard Campanello, co-founder of the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative, has been placed on administrative leave by the City of Gloucester pending an investigation related to a personal matter, which we understand has nothing to do with P.A.A.R.I. As a result, Chief Campanello has stepped aside from his role at P.A.A.R.I. to devote his full attention to resolving these issues.

“Over the past 15 months, P.A.A.R.I. has grown into a nationwide movement of law enforcement and service providers with a unified mission. Our partners have saved thousands of lives, as 153 police departments in 27 states have joined with us to create addiction and recovery programs.

“The opioid epidemic is nationwide and more than 100 individuals overdose each day. P.A.A.R.I.’s work is more vital than ever.

“P.A.A.R.I. will continue, as before, in its mission to save lives, increase access to treatment for individuals suffering from the disease of addiction and seeking assistance, and supporting the work of law enforcement agencies across the country who want to do more to fight the opioid epidemic.”
