Acting Director of National Drug Control Policy to Highlight New Phoenix Law Enforcement Initiatives to Address Drug Use
Acting Director Baum, state and local leaders will talk about new law enforcement efforts to get people with addictive disorders the help they need
Washington, D.C. – On Wednesday, April 26, Acting Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy Richard Baum will travel to Phoenix, Arizona, and join state and local leaders to publicly announce the new PAARI (Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative) Angel Initiative at the Phoenix Police Department. Over the last few months, the Maryvale Estrella Mountain Precinct has implemented a pilot project to expand access to treatment for people with substance use disorders, rather than just arrest them for simple possession crimes.

While in Phoenix, Acting Director Baum will hold a series of National Drug Control Strategy consultation meetings with Arizona prevention, treatment, recovery, and law enforcement leaders. He will also meet with Governor Doug Ducey to talk about Arizona efforts to address drug use and its consequences.
