P.A.A.R.I. Executive Director Allie Hunter McDade to Visit Berea
Learn more about the Safe Passages Initiative and P.A.A.R.I.
Berea, OH, – The Berea and Olmsted Township Police Departments, in conjunction with the Safe Passages agencies in Greater Cleveland, are inviting you to meet with Allie Hunter McDade, the Executive Director of the Police Assisted Addiction Recovery Initiative (PAARI). Safe Passages is an innovative, law enforcement led program designed to facilitate the entry into detox and treatment of those in active addiction. While Safe Passages is not an amnesty program, it is a pre-arrest, diversionary effort to provide access points to assistance, especially for those addicted to heroin or other opiates. Safe Passages is affiliated with PAARI and is partially based on the Gloucester, MA Police Department’s Angel Initiative.
PAARI is a 501 (c)(3) national organization supporting almost 400 law enforcement agencies that have helped almost 10,000 people into treatment since 2015. Currently, there are 10 police departments running Safe Passages in Cuyahoga County, to include: Berea, Olmsted Township, Bedford, Newburgh Heights, Strongsville, Lyndhurst, Mayfield Village, Mayfield Heights, Richmond Heights and Highland Heights.
Director McDade is traveling to Cleveland to meet with all of the Safe Passages agencies and those agencies that would like more information about the program. She will also be discussing a potential partnership between Safe Passages, PAARI, and AmeriCorps to embed Recovery Coaches with Safe Passages/PAARI affiliated agencies.
