Videos: Anne Arundel County Maryland Safe Stations

Last year, the Anne Arundel County Police and Fire Departments, as well as the Annapolis Police and Fire Departments have joined together in a local effort to combat a nationwide problem by opening the doors of their combined 38 stations as drop-in centers for individuals seeking help recovering from opioid addiction.

“Safe Stations” is modeled after Gloucester Angel Program and is a collaboration between CIT trained police officers and mental health clinicians. It allows any Anne Arundel County resident to go to any police or fire station in Anne Arundel County or the City of Annapolis to receive help with their recovery:

  • 34 fire stations and 4 police stations participating as 24/7 365 entry points to treatment
  • 939 assessments since the program launched in April 2017
  • 23% decrease in burglaries, 13% decrease in theft, 23% decrease in theft from autos, since the program started
