About:

Dunya Barash serves as the Director of Operations at Families Against Narcotics (FAN), as a Social Worker by degree and Certified Prevention Specialist. Her experience spans community organizing and engagement, nonprofit management, cultural competency, policy advocacy, and developing strategies to address public health and prevention strategies.

As a first-generation immigrant, Dunya understands the importance of resilience, and she shares her approach with the community and the organizations she serves. She has been involved in various nonprofit initiatives, including Royal Family KIDS Camp, the Arab American and Community Foundation, the Sterling Heights Drug Free Coalition, Faith in Action during the Flint water crisis, and CARE of Southeastern Michigan. Additionally, Dunya initiated the Sisters Collective, focusing on meeting the specific needs of families and women.

In her nearly three years at FAN, starting in June 2021, Dunya has contributed to the organization’s growth and impact. Her role has been integral in engaging the community in solutions related to substance use disorder, breaking down barriers for the folks FAN serves, and educating on how stigma impacts us all. Her leadership at FAN reflects her dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of people and families impacted by addiction.
