Co-Responder, Cape Girardeau Police Department

Why do you want to be a PAARI Pro?

“I am deeply interested in contributing to the PAARI network along with other law enforcement and public mental health professionals in their efforts to deflect/divert individuals to more appropriate help. As a co-responder in a rural area of MO I’ve developed a strong ability to navigate challenges with limited resources. I’ve learned to collaborate closely with local organizations and community members to identify practical solutions.”

About:

Rachel Alcantara, a dedicated mental health first responder for the Cape Girardeau Police Department, stands as a beacon of compassion and resilience in the realm of mental health intervention. A proud graduate of Loma Linda University with a Masters in Social Work, Rachel’s journey is characterized by a deep commitment to improving the well-being of individuals in crisis. Rachel’s diverse professional background reflects her versatile expertise in social work. Before joining the Cape Girardeau Police Department as a mental health first responder, she served as a dialysis social worker, demonstrating her ability to navigate the complexities of healthcare and provide support to individuals undergoing challenging medical treatments.

As a mental health case worker, Rachel honed her skills in addressing a wide spectrum of mental health needs, showcasing her adaptability and commitment to holistic care. Her experience as a child welfare worker further attests to her dedication to the welfare of vulnerable populations, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and support for children and families. In her role as a mental health first responder in the Co-Responder Unit (CRU) with the Cape Girardeau Police Department, Rachel plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between law enforcement and mental health support. Her on-the-ground experience and compassionate approach contribute to the success of the department’s efforts in handling mental health crises effectively.
